This large heavy bronze is titled "Phoenician Dancer" and was sculpted by Demetre Chiparus. Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (also known as Dumitru Chiparus; September 16, 1886, Dorohoi, Romania - January 22, 1947, Paris, France) was a Romanian sculptor of the Art Deco era who lived and worked in Paris. He was born in Romania, the son of Haralamb and Saveta. In 1909, he traveled to Italy, where he studied under the Italian sculptor Raffaello Romanelli. In 1912, he traveled to Paris to attend the Ecole des Beaux Arts to further his art in the classes of Antonin Mercie and Jean Boucher.
