Captured by the Germans during World War I, he was interned in Switzerland. Upon returning to Paris, he exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries in 1922. After beginnings still influenced by academicism, Bouraine emerged in the 1925 as one of the most representative sculptors of Art Deco. Bouraine is a member of the Société des Artistes Français and participates in the Salon d'Automne. He collaborated in 1928 with Gabriel Argy-Rousseau, who commissioned several sculptures from him, as well as sometimes with his friend Pierre Le Faguays.
