He studied sculpture under the direction of Joseph-Alexandre Falguière. Captured by the Germans during World War I, he was interned in Switzerland. Upon returning to Paris, he exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries in 1922. After initially being influenced by academism, Bouraine emerged in the 1925 as one of the most representative sculptors of Art Deco. Bouraine was a member of the Société des Artistes Français and participated in the Salon d'Automne.In 1928, he collaborated with Gabriel Argy-Rousseau who commissioned several sculptures from him, sometimes also with his friend Pierre Le Faguays.
